So i posted a previous blog on the recent hate crimes that’s been happening. come to find out, the lady that was thrown off the t-train tracks was my sister’s boyfriend’s mom’s coworker. SMALL FUCKING WORLD. it’s hella sad to see an innocent being get violently attacked like that, but to be connected to this woman some how made my heart sink a lil more…
Today, in Chinese personality class, we had a discussion about these hate crimes, whether they’re hate crimes based on race, or whether they’re just a coincidental chain of violent acts. My teacher asked the class “what do you guys think it is? is it a racial thing?”. I thought to myself, “of course it’s a racial thing. consecutive crimes put up the ASIAN population? shit, can’t be anything else”. i COULD be WRONG. the thing i didn’t think of was whether or not there was a possibility that this “HATE CRIME” or violent act was actually NOT aimed towards ASIANS specifically.
k, am i losing you? idk if i make any sense but this is how he put it. Chinese & Blacks just so happen to live in the poorest areas in San Francisco right? right. So my professor pointed out the possibility that MAYBE, it just so happens these young black teens (robbers) and chinese (robbed) are in the SAME area at the same time. Being put into a neighborhood with NO recourses from the government gives us THIS. “HATE CRIMES”. maybe it’s the lack of institutions in the Bayview/third street/TL. if you walk & look around, the MAJORITY of the neighbors are either CHINESE or BLACK. it sucks that we, alongside african americans, live in such low quality environments. Maybe the people to blame is the government? perhaps the lack of recourses enables these kids to go out in the streets to target elderly.
Why attack the elderly? Cuz they’re easier to fight, the chances of them fighting back are slim to none.
Why attack an ASIAN? Cuz they were a lot of jewelry, use technology like iPhones & iPods, gameboys, etc. Also, it’s a lil more rational for a Black person to attack and Asian. Blacks know their fellow blacks & Asians would have a tougher time tryna identify their attacker.
Why in the TL/BayView/ThirdST/Visitation area? Cuz they LACK police officials in all these areas.
The general public claims that it’s the ASAIN’S fault for not reaching out to the police or the media. I’m sorry, but it was reported that police officials WERE in fact aware that these nasty acts were happening. Did they act on them? indeed, lazy as ever, they continue to NOT do their job, especially in these poor neighborhoods.
It made me feel good to hear that there was a possibility that this was NOT hate crimes. My professor made a valid point. BlacksĀ + Asians, in POOR conditions = this. So after all these open media blitz about hate crimes “BLACKS on ASIANS”, the Asian & Africana studies department is planning on writing an editorial about this current situation & idea.
BLACKS & ASIANS=victims of hate crimes. not Blacks VS. Asians. Unity promotes change.
This THURSDAY, there will be a rally/demonstration at City Hall i believe @ 6pm. Asians & Blacks will come together to try unite to prevent these crimes from happening any further. GO attend GO attend GO if you have time!!!
