Text 3 May Red Egg Ginger

Red Egg party! My cousin Kimberly had her first child, Megan, and our family celebrated with a traditional Red Egg party.

The parents hand out red-dyed eggs, symbolizing happiness and the renewal of life.

Red egg and ginger parties have their origins in ancient Chinese culture. As in other countries, infant mortality rates in China were quite high prior to the medical advances of the twentieth century. A baby who reached one month of age was likely to survive, and so the event was celebrated. (http://chinesefood.about.com/library/weekly/aa012303a.htm)

The party was held at Hong Kong Flower Lounge in Millbrae.
(Yelp: http://www.yelp.com/biz/hong-kong-flower-lounge-millbrae) We pulled into the valet parking lot. Double glass door entrance. Upstairs for private party. Signed the elaborate white guest book. Then I looked around and there were 25 tables, white and gold trimmings, fancy silverware, expensive food, wine, and of course the red dyed eggs. I didn’t realize how much I missed spending time with my family until this event. It’s always nice to sit around a table and eat family style. It was a beautiful luncheon and baby Megan is toooo adorable!
