only problem about the manicurist industry now is that there are so many vietnamese people doing nails and competing against each other with nail salons and lowering prices to get customers and its harder to make as much money especially in california where theres so many vietnamese and vietnamese community. my mother has to leave california every end of spring to beg of fall to find jobs as a manicurist to make decent money because there is too much competition here not only for prices but also for her to get hired as a manicurist because there are so many viet people here. she is discriminated by age because she is a lot older than most people and salons here prefer to have younger women.
in california you can get a fullset as cheap as 14-16 dollars where as somewhere out of state she can make up to 40 dollars per a set.
others states have a smaller vietnamese population making it easier to find jobs and salons that need and beg my own mother to work. not only cause its harder to get licensed in other states but because she is licensed in many other states and in canada. this is only because she has been living in the united states for over 30 years after the fall of saigon making english easier for her compared to other immgrants. i guess this is a lot of info many people do not know about the manicurist occupation
