All 4 classes of Ethnic Studies 210 went to Brava Theatre to Produce Our Power!
This was the WORST week to have our final, not neven lyin! i think the quorum of the class would agree LOL. but none the less, we put together our super powers and united we stood on that stage!
Preparation:
We divied up into the same groups as the midterm/flashmob. this was cool cuz i wasnt finished with the audio crew, nope! haha. in my opinion, the final was really a way to showcase INDIVIDUAL talents, not just the overall talent of ETHS210 with Duller :). it was hard to begin with, tryna stick to a set outline/script of the performance cuz there was just so many factors that the class wanted to implement into the alotted 30 mins we had! I think we worked with it pretty well.
The day of:
My palms weren’t sweating. my whole freakin body was. hahah nah. yeah well kinda. we were rehearsing and everything seemed to on point. Although the TA’s kept telling us we’re benefiting cuz in their year, they only had 1 day to rehearse, it didn’t help! haha this is ETHS210 spring’10. we’re all perfectionists! LOL 1 day of rehearsal is DEF not enough to perfect a masterpiece! BUT WE DIIIID. we rehearsed real fast, went to the back and broke into smaller groups and had a lil talk through with Irene. THIS really helped. I was doing the poem/spoken word/balagtasan part of the performance, so i met up with Michelle & Andrew to recite the parts. It came out pretty good on stage! and EVERYONE else’s performance was great!
the whole class was able to showcase their individual talents to the audience as well as convey a deeper message than just dances & spoken words. we were able to show them that justice is way beyond just speaking out to the public, but ACTING on those words & statements. JUSTICE, not just us. our message extended past just US, ethnic studies students, but beyond to the “outsiders”. they were able to see what WE, ASIANS, are capable of! the other classes also did REALLY well. although there were tonnnnnss of vids, i actually was able to stick through the whole thing without hesitation haha. goodshit eths210 spring’10.
if only, all classes allowed students to put together their OWN performances. cuz i know from this final, i was able to take home a LOT more than what i’d get from a written exam for my other classes. what’s better than grading students on what they’ve learned through a creative AND informative means of entertainment? haha Justice, not just us……
